I am an Advocate practising in the Sheriff Courts and Court of Session. Although I work from Advocates' Library in Edinburgh, I live in Perth and regularly travel throughout Scotland for court appearances or consultations.
I was an Associate in a leading firm of Tayside solicitors before being called to the bar in 2000. I have a general civil practice acting for both pursuers and defenders in both the Sheriff Courts and Court of Session.
My day to day caseload tends to contain a mixture of property disputes, commercial disputes, personal injury and professional negligence cases.
I have particular experience in media law such as defamation, contempt of court and copyright. I was engaged for a number of years as a shift lawyer at The Scotsman and other newspapers where I gave regular pre-publication advice.
I also have particular experience in licensing law, having acted for both licensees and local authorities in various licensing appeals. In anticipation of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 coming into force, I obtained the Certificate in Liquor Licensing in 2006 and completed the Licensing Masterclass in 2007 and 2008.
